New Remote Uploader

Filed under FileFactory News at 1:06 am

We are excited to announce the release of a new version of the Remote Uploader utility. We have completely rewritten it from the ground up after listening to your requests, comments and suggestions, and we believe the new version is far superior and more reliable than the previous version.

So, What’s Changed?
The actual download process is now completely different. Once you submit a download link from the newly designed submission form, instead of having to wait and keep your browser window open until it completes, you are presented with a screen showing you the status of your submission.

You can now monitor all of your concurrent remote downloads from one screen, using the new “smart list” which you can find on the bottom left of the File Manager menu. Once downloads are complete, you will be able to view the FileFactory download links, and you can now also export a series of completed remote uploads by selecting all of the checkboxes next to their name, and then selecting Files -> Show URLs.

Downloads are now done in several parts simultaneously, which speeds them up tremendously. On top of this, we have rewritten the actual download scripts which has resulted in more successful downloads, and a ’smarter’ system, which can detect possible issues and alert us about them before they become a problem.

Some of the great new features are as follows:

Unmonitored Downloads
Unlike the old version which required you to leave your browser window open while you had files actively transferring, the new version allows you to submit download jobs to our servers, where they then get placed into a queue. Depending on the current server load, our servers will either begin processing your files immediately, or your downloads will begin after a brief wait while a slot becomes available.

We have integrated the Remote Uploader with our File Manager, so now the whole process is far more streamlined. Once you submit your downloads, you can switch your computer off or disconnect from the internet, so this is great for people with limited internet time or people who only use their computer occasionally!

Multipart Downloads
The old remote uploader used to download each file as one large piece. What this means, is that if the file was coming off a slow server, even though FileFactory has plenty of available bandwidth, it could take hours for the transfer to complete. With the new system however, we segment the downloads automatically, which allows us to download files up to three times faster than they would have been retrieved with the old system.

New Interface
The uploader interface has been redesigned to offer a more streamlined way to add your download links. You no longer have to visit different pages on our website if you wish to upload files from multiple services; you now just have to select the appropriate service from a dropdown list on the Remote Uploader page.

Job submission times are also far quicker now, as we no longer send your browser progress information (this is now available via the File Manager), so you can submit more download links in less time.

As always, we’d love to hear from you if you have any comments or suggestions. You can contact us by using our contact form or if you encounter a bug, you can fill out a support request.
